Big Sky Airlines

Big Sky Airlines is an American commercial airline that has head-quarter at Illings in Montana, USA. The Big Sky Airlines is wholly owned by Big Sky Transportation Company. This company is a totally-owned subsidiary of MAIR Holdings. Big Sky operates scheduled commuter passenger services to Boston and 21 other cities. Delta Connection, a sister airline of Big Sky Airlines maintains a hub at Billings, Montana, from which the airline flies more of its non-stop routes than it does from other airports. The Big Sky Airlines is an air link within the state of Montana. More over Big Sky Airlines is serving as the major commercial air transporter to many of the subsidiary airports in the state.

A press release announced on December 21, 2006, that Big Sky would become a Delta Connection carrier, using eight Beechcraft 1900D turboprops from Boston’s Logan International Airport.

The Big Sky Airlines started operating on September 15, 1978. This airline took over Aspen Mountain Air’s Essential Air Service routes in October 1998. In the late 2002 Big Sky Airlines offered service among the routes, Idaho Falls, Idaho and Denver and Colorado but cancelled it only after three months, declaring it unprofitable.

In the early 2005, Big Sky announced a few changes to its service and planned the termination of service to North Dakota. At the same time Big Sky Airlines replaced its Metro fleet with Beechcraft 1900Ds that was about to be leased from Mesa Air Group, the subsidiary of Air Midwest.
