Bedford/Hanscom Field

Bedford-Hanscom Field is located at around 20 miles northwest from Boston. Hanscom Field has always remained a major hub of local aviation since 1941. At the time the Commonwealth of Massachusetts acquired 500 acres of land in the towns of Bedford, Concord, Lexington and Lincoln, Bedford/Hanscom Field became the major hub of regional aviation. Soon the Bedford/Hanscom Field became the Army Air Corps in 1941 and was named the Laurence G. Hanscom Field, in honor of the commander of the Massachusetts Wing of the Civilian Air Reserve. In 1974, Massport and military operations were given the responsibility of the general operations and maintenance of the Bedford/Hanscom airfield. After that Hanscom gradually became a regional aviation facility, the major users of which are a mix of commuter or

commercial air services, corporate aviation, flight schools, private pilots and some charters and light cargos.Bedford’s popularity is mainly because of its outstanding location. The business users find it really convenient to reach there. The accessibility of this airport to “America’s Technology Region” is another reason why it is the most popular getaway to the city of Boston for the business travelers. The Bedford/Hanscom Field is the hub of the nation’s best cultural, financial, medical, educational and entertainment establishments. Moreover, the setting of Bedford/Hanscom Field is quite modern and historic. According to its geographic location Bedford/Hanscom Field airport is a part of Bedford, Concord, Lexington and Lincoln. These places are popular round the globe for the colonial history and tradition of the place. The airport is bordered by one of the Commonwealth’s most important sites, Minute Man National Historic Park, on its south side. This park is the early Revolutionary War battle field and the place of origin of Paul Revere’s famous ride and eventual capture.
